postheadericon Mercedes apologizes for use of Che Guevarra’s Photo

It was plain stupidity and insensitivity; that’s how many attendees of the Consumer Electronic Show held in Las Vegas saw the use of the image of Ernesto “Che” Guevara during a promotional campaign for Mercedes. Many were totally appalled that when during the presentation of Mercedes-Benz by Dieter Zetsche, head of Mercedes in the Consumer Electric Show, a reproduced image photo of the Argentine Communist was flashed on the background.
Mercedes people claimed that there was no intention at all to immortalize the man who spearheaded the rise to power of Fidel Castro of Cuba. Everybody knows that the reproduced famous photo was also used as an incensing communist propaganda during the year of 1960′s and the 70, which saw the peak of communist revolutionary movements. The Mercedes man, Dieter Zetche explained that Mercedes image was not directly attached to the image of Che Guevara nor have something to do with the man’s ideology.
Daimler AG had already expressed their apology to the public and said that Mercedes-Benz was doing some corrections. What ignites the fire of controversy was mainly the use of Che Guevara’s photo. The famous star that adorns the man’s beret on the original photo was replaced by Mercedes’ logo. It is a plain show off and nothing more, as according to Daimler.
In connection with Mercedes-Benz goals for 2012, in an earlier made keynote announcement, Dr.Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Daimer Management accentuated Mercedes innovations inside the car and put emphasis on Mercedes’ declaration of Independence stating that the best days of driving are still to come ahead. He also declared that Mercedes-Benz is committed in making cars more secured and safe, smarter, efficient and more fun to drive. He also drew attention to Mercedes’ Car2Go service, which is a car sharing program, meant for electric vehicles. The service will soon add another new 12 cities in 2012 along side with Car2gether which is a social network for the road.
In the midst of the Mercedes controversy, the show was a total success when more than the numbers of expected attendees were present during the day one of the public show. The second day was with a bigger crowd with 102,918 excited attendees. When asked if the bigger crowd is a signal of resurgence for love of cars, show organizers are one in saying the hope is better and the prospect is definitely clearer.
